West Virginia defines a food establishment as an operation that stores, prepares, packages, serves, vends, or otherwise provides food for human consumption.

Examples of food establishments include:

food bank
farmers markets
healthcare facilities, including nursing home and hospitals

However, while West Virginia requires foodservice workers to earn a food handler card, each county establish its own requirements for food handler training.

Some counties don’t specify when you must obtain your food handler card, but most require it within 30 days of employment.
