Common Questions About Getting or Renewing Your Alaska Food Handlers Card

Foodservice workers must earn their card through the State of Alaska or the Municipality of Anchorage. After reviewing the official materials and passing the state exam, you can print your card. Cottage food producers may take an accredited online course like FoodSafePal’s.

Yes. Most foodservice workers in Alaska must get a food worker card through the State of Alaska or the Municipality of Anchorage. Cottage food producers are not part of this requirement and can take an accredited online course instead.

No. FoodSafePal’s food handler card is not approved for foodservice workers in Alaska. The only cards accepted for foodservice jobs are those issued by the State of Alaska or the Municipality of Anchorage. However, FoodSafePal’s training is accepted statewide for cottage food producers who want food handler training under Alaska’s homemade food rules.

If you’re referring to the official Alaska food worker card for foodservice jobs, you must access and reprint it through the State of Alaska or the Municipality of Anchorage. FoodSafePal does not issue Alaska’s official food worker cards.

If you completed FoodSafePal’s training for cottage food, your FoodSafePal card is available in your account immediately after passing the exam, where you can download or print it anytime.

The official Alaska food worker card is valid for three years. This applies to both the State of Alaska card and the Municipality of Anchorage card. After it expires, you must retake the required exam to renew it.

FoodSafePal’s food handler card is separate and used only for cottage food training; it does not replace Alaska’s official food worker card.
