Purpose: To arm you with a basic understanding of essential food safety principles.
Scope: This program will teach you or sharpen your knowledge of safe food handling practices.
Learning Objectives: effective June 12, 2023
- identify how food becomes unsafe and leads to foodborne illnesses
- identify when and which symptoms and illnesses must be reported
- recognize proper hand hygiene techniques and good personal grooming habits to prevent food and food-contact surface contamination
- recognize best practices to keep food safe throughout its flow by using time and temperature controls
- describe how to maintain a clean environment and prevent cross-contact
Common Questions About Getting or Renewing Your Food Handlers Card
Is this training the same as ServSafe?
FoodSafePal’s Food Handler Training holds the same ANSI-National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accreditation as ServSafe. This means that the food handlers card you earn with FoodSafePal is valid and accepted everywhere ServSafe is.
Does my Food Handler Card Expire?
Your FoodSafePal Food Handler Card is valid for three years. However, your state or county may require you to renew sooner. For example, if you live in Texas, your FoodSafePal Food Handler Card is valid for two years.
What is a passing score for the test?
The minimum passing score is 70%. After you pass, you can access your card and certificate immediately under “Certificates” in your Dashboard. You will have one free retake to pass the test. If you don’t pass on your second try, you will need to repurchase the course.
How can my employer or I check the status of my food handlers card?
After you complete the course and pass the test, you can immediately download or print your card and certificate. You can access your certificate by clicking “My Dashboard,” and then clicking “My Certificates.”

How do I enroll and earn a food handlers card?
Choose your state here to enroll. Enter your information to create an account and complete the purchase. You will then be redirected to start the course.
If you want to complete the course at a later time, click “Login” in the far right corner. Once you’re logged in, select “My Dashboard” and then “My Course” to access the training.

Will my state or county accept my food handlers card?

After you earn your food handlers card, you have the option to print, save, or email it to whomever, including your employer.
Can I change my name on my food handlers card?
For security reasons, you cannot change the name on your food handlers card. Please contact us if you accidentally misspelled your name during the enrollment process.
