Comprehensive Program

10/30/26

Great material, solid practice test. My only complaint is when trying to log for the actual exam I was forced to change my Google account password even though my email is yahoo. That was a time waste and very frustrating.

Response from FoodSafePal® Food Manager Certification

Thanks Jessica! We’re glad you found the material and practice test helpful. Sorry about the frustration at the exam login — FoodSafePal never asks for a Google password, so that prompt came from your browser rather than from us. We’ve since tightened the exam login flow so it can’t happen again. Congrats on earning your food manager certification!

A lot of information to know

Great training. Tough exam for me though – wording of questions are tricky. I thought sure I had failed the first attempt, but no I passed it, thankfully!!!

Enjoyable learning

I thoroughly enjoyed this course that I had to take for our youth concessions. The self-paced modules were concise and the graphics were helpful. I loved the questions that popped up throughout the modules. I felt prepared for the exam.

The One Place For Both Certs

09/19/26

So glad I landed on this website. I got my food handler and food manager certificates from the same site, and both are acceptable by the States I live and work at. The prices were very reasonable. But I would say the questions I had on the food manager test were not part of the practice test they have. I relied on other youtubes I found. But passed the test from the first attempt. You are allowed two with the same payment.

New Jersey Cottage Food Certification — Common Questions

Yes. New Jersey requires every cottage food operator to hold a Food Protection Manager certificate from an accredited program and to submit a copy with their Cottage Food Operator Permit application to the New Jersey Department of Health. The certificate must be valid and in good standing when you apply. Our guide to New Jersey’s cottage food law covers permitted foods and labeling requirements in detail.

Yes. The New Jersey Department of Health lists FoodSafePal by name (shown as Dakota Dietitians (FoodSafePal)) among its accredited Food Protection Manager organizations, and certificates from every organization on that list are equally accepted as proof of your credential.

New Jersey requires the manager-level certification. A food handler certificate is for staff who work under a food protection manager, such as a restaurant kitchen worker. As a cottage food operator you manage your own business, so the Food Protection Manager certification is the one the permit application asks for.

New Jersey requires the certificate, and passing the accredited exam is what earns it. Training is optional. FoodSafePal’s Training + Exam package ($159) includes both so you can prepare first; if you already know the material, the exam alone is $99.

Yes. State rules require you to comply with your municipality’s local laws, and the Department of Health asks for zoning board approval before you apply. Contact your town’s zoning board, tell them where you live, and ask whether a cottage food business is allowed in your home. That approval is required before the State will issue your permit.

Along with your Food Protection Manager certificate: the completed application form, a product questionnaire for each product, frosting, and filling you’ll sell, proof of safe water (a copy of your water bill, or a recent well test if you’re on a private well), zoning approval, and the $100 application fee. You submit everything to the Department of Health by email. The permit is valid for two years, and the Department’s review currently takes 12–16 weeks.

The exam has 70 questions and a 90-minute time limit. The passing score ranges from 68–72% depending on which exam form you receive — each form uses a slightly different set of questions, so the passing score is adjusted to keep the standard consistent across all forms.

Every exam purchase includes one free retake. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can retake the exam at no additional cost.

Five years from the date you pass the exam. Renewal requires passing the exam again — no additional training required. Your Cottage Food Operator Permit renews every two years, and your certificate must be valid and in good standing at each renewal.
