It was very informative.

A lot of information. U have to take test in a quiet and peaceful room. No distractions. I failed first time cause my husband was watching a ball game and kids were talking too much.

When I went up stairs behind closed doors I was able to concentrate better. I passed.

Marcia Newbrough
Weirton, WV

Response from FoodSafePal®

Thanks Marcia! Great advice — distractions can make it difficult to focus, but we’re glad you passed!

Watch, take notes, use common sense (think!) and you’ll fine.

03/30/26

I’ve been into BBQ for the past 30+ years. I’ve entered numerous contests that require each contestant to apply for a temporary food establishment license. My wife and I also love to cook and we host a handful of BBQ get-togethers with family and friends annually. Never once have we had someone who has eaten our food (at home or at contests) have a bad experience due to improper food handling. From time to time as are asked to provide food for our friend’s children’s birthday parties, graduation parties, etc. Even though we have access to a licensed commissary kitchen (if/when needed) I thought it would be a good idea to have something on hand to show people who may ask about our food prep & food handling processes, etc. When I was searching through the net for different food handling tests/licenses/certificates (per state) I came across the FoodSafePal website and started doing some research. I liked what I read and the price is extremely reasonable (along with easy payment options). I decided this was exactly what I was looking for. I was pleasantly surprised how thurough the test really is. If you take the test w/o really paying attention, taking notes, and using common sense, you may find yourself taking it more than once. This test is no joke. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to pass it, but it isn’t something you’re going to skip through w/o any effort. All though it is almost 100% common sense, it will make you think about the way you do things in the kitchen (at work or at home…or both). When I finished the test with a passing score (98%…thank you, LOL) I truly felt that I had accomplished something. Don’t be intimidated by this test. It’s well worth the price (even better, the certificate is good for 3 years). Watch, take notes, use common sense (think!) and you’ll fine. Thank you, Gavin and others, for putting together such a great collection of information. – Bob Schaar, Grand Ledge, MI.
